New York Horns, Van Davis

New York Horns is a horn section and band begun by trumpeter Chris Anderson and saxophonist John Isley in 1998. Their initial EP Tunnel Vision, released in 1999, was downloaded by over 350,000 fans worldwide on MP3.com, and garnered them a loyal fanbase and critical acclaim. NYH remained busy recording and performing until 2003, when with both pursuing other projects, an almost 10 year hiatus ensued. It wasn’t until reuniting in The Juke Horns (Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes) in 2012 that Chris and John were able to begin work on a second NYH recording. Rediscovering their affinity for producing music together, Chris and John wrote several new tracks and performed a number of gigs in the summer of 2013 that encouraged them to produce the current full length CD, New York Horns, (to be released June/2014). Their mantra with this recording has been “Its got to be as fun for the audience as it is for the cats on stage.”

Van Davis is a rock-funk group that has been performing consistently in NYC for 10 years and counting. The band’s two current releases Van Davis and Have You Seen This Band? were both met with critical acclaim from jazz and rock worlds, and the band performs regularly at the famed NYC jazz venue 55 Bar.  Now with the addition of soulful vocalist Abena Koomson and their new release Come With Me, the band has taken its sound to an exciting new place, rooted in tasteful melodic songwriting, thoughtful lyrics, along with the adventurous and unpredictable playing that Van Davis fans have come to expect.
