Las Cafeteras

Las Cafeteras seamlessly fuse traditional Afro-Mexican music from Veracruz, modern rhythms, and lyrically rich storytelling to create a fresh Urban Folk sound from the streets of East Los Angeles. A remix of traditional Son Jarocho sounds, they add Afro-Caribbean marimbol and cajón, poetry in English and Spanglish, and eclectic instrumentation including jarana, requinto, donkey jawbone, West African Marimbol, cajón, and a wooden platform called the Tarima used to dance Zapateado. Opening up the night will be DJ Ushka (Dutty Artz/iBomba).
