Jazztopad

This summer’s jam is a night of improvisational jazz from some of the world’s most creative, risk-taking artists. Join us for Jazztopad Festival, the leading event of its kind in Poland and one of the year’s most important events in the jazz world, as it returns for the annual performance of its satellite edition at Lincoln Center! The city-wide festival is an opportunity to discover the most important artists from the Polish contemporary jazz scene. Join Polish duo Maniucha & Ksawery in their explorations combining jazz improvisation with traditional songs from northwestern Ukraine. Their compositions evoke feelings of springtime and renewal as they incorporate love songs and lullabies into their performances, while recalling fables and stories connected with their repertoire. An evening unlike any other!

Next up is Michael Bates + The Lutosławski Quartet, performing a concert celebrating the release of the dynamic recording “Metamorphosis”. In a radically different interpretation of the revered Polish icon: Witold Lutosławski, composer/bassist Michael Bates combines Acrobat, a ferocious quintet of improvisers, with one of Poland’s most innovative contemporary ensembles, the Lutosławski String Quartet.
