2009: The Year in Free Concerts: Seaport Music Festival

South Street Seaport Music FestivalWhat’s really cool about the Seaport Music Festival is the fact it takes place on Friday night. It’s the perfect free music festival for those that work in lower Manhattan. The festival gives them the chance to hear some of the hottest bands for free as they start their weekend. The 2009 edition of the festival featured many of the best new bands of late. The Pains of Being Pure At Hear, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Blank Dogs, The xx, Here We Go Magic are some of the new bands that had appearances at the festival. The legendary Jon Spencer Blues Explosion had kicked off the festival on June 17. Chapel Hill indie band legends Superchunk brought their high-powered rock to the Seaport on June 17. The biggest disappointment of the festival was the recently re-formed Polvo not performing because of rain.
