The Malian singer OUMOU SANGARÉ, “the most celebrated performer in West Africa,” (New York Magazine) has brought the enchanting tribal rhythms of her Wassoulou homeland to the global stage with a captivating presence and a voice of pure gold. The Arabic music savant BASSAM SABA “weaves together Lebanese and Arabic folk music with Turkish Gypsy styles and Russian motifs, playing oud, flutes, violin and buzuq…surprisingly funksome stuff.” (Time Out NY)

Dr. John & the Lower 911

Chuck Brown
Red Baraat

Saturday, July 30 / 6:30pm / gates 5:30pm

Dr. John

DR. JOHN carries the entirety of New Orleans’ rich musical heritage in his fingers, with a bottomless vocabulary that embraces blues, pop, jazz, Zydeco, boogie woogie and rock and roll. Having revived his Nite Tripper persona he is in unstoppable form: his 2010 album Tribal is “close to a career-defining summation from one of America’s most important musicians.” (AllMusic) In the late ’70s the DC guitarist CHUCK BROWN combined funk, R&B, and early hip-hop with call and response and a syncopated beat to invent a brand new genre—and “The Godfather of Go-Go” has kept the party going ever since. With an opening set of bangin’ bhangra and brass funk by RED BARAAT. Come early for Celebrate Brooklyn!’s first-ever pig roast!
