New York City Opera’s VOX presents: Acquanetta

Saturday May 1 4:50 PM

NYU Skirball Center
566 Laguardia Place, New York, NY

This New York City Opera’s VOX Contemporary American Opera Lab presents the US Premiere of Michael Gordon’s 2005 opera Acquanetta.

This performance is FREE and open to all, but seating is limited — get there early!

Acquanetta, with libretto by Deborah Artman, focuses on questions of identity as personified in Burnu Acquanetta, an exotic actress of uncertain origin, who vanished from Hollywood at the height of her career. Acquanetta starred in the classic 1943 cult horror film, Captive Wild Woman, which launched her to fame as a sexy B-movie icon. In Acquanetta, the mock serious, campy spirit of horror movies is turned inside out in a bravura, one-act deconstruction of the five minutes that changed Acquanetta’s life forever.
