Led by singer, cornetist, and trombonist Michael Arenella, the Hot Eight is steeped in the hot-dance band tradition of the Jazz Age. Their entire repertoire comes from period recordings, transcribed by Michael. The youthful, polished, and dapper band, whose instruments, attire, and equipment are faithfully accurate, capture the essence of what the music and the time was all about: joy, romance, modernity, and possibility—and with it a fresh and timeless sound.
The site of the new David Rubenstein Atrium has witnessed many musical milestones including the birth of the Charleston at the former New Colonial Theater, and now Michael Arenella and His Hot Eight revive the roaring 20s on the same ground.(Source)
