2009: The Year in Free Concerts: Jazzmobile

Jazzmobile_LogoWhat’s cool about Jazzmobile is the fact it’s a multi-borough free concert series. Jazzmobile has performances in historic places like Grant’s Tomb, Louie Armstrong’s house in Queens, and Co-Op City in the Bronx. The best part of Jazzmobile are the performers. In 2009 you had a chance to hear Lonnie Youngblood, Lou Donaldson, Arturo O’Farrill, Frank Wess, Akiko Tsuruga, and many more all for free. It’s possible Grammy Award winning pianist Arturo O’Farrill had given the most free performances of any NYC musician in 2009. He had performed at Jazzmobile three times and made an appearance at Monk at 92.
